The view from D.C.
Washington Post beat reporter Chico Harlan reports that manager Manny Acta is safe – at least today. Acta was already on the field shortly before 3 p.m. Harlan also offers positive first impressions of Yankee Stadium:

I like the airy, Grand Central-ish concourse, where natural light floods in from the ceilings. This ballpark feels smart, purposeful. Everything from the elevators to the sightlines — all well-designed, well-thought out. (This is in decided contrast to Citi Field, which is far too busy and sloppy for its own good, kind of like a NASCAR T-shirt.)

When did Michael Kay become a dope?

What happened to him? Too much air time and now some of it has unfortunately become trapped inside his head?

I long for the days when Michael was on the radio with John Sterling – the two of them kept each other in check somehow, now we’ve got them both unleashed – oh, to be a Yankee fan in these trying times.

Seriously though, what a pleasure to listen to Ken S., Dave C., Paul, and Flash. Michael is like an annoying sideshow. He is so over matched against those guys.

Management – can you give him some time off from the games and just let him do whatever other shows he does. (Fortunately, I don’t watch or listen to them.)

…or at least talk to him. Tell him to stop being such a knucklehead.

I was just watching the Wash. game and he is annoying Flash with “How do you do it? How do you play when you know you don’t have a chance to win, blah, blah, blah.”

You gotta love Flash’s response, as he gingerly explains, “Well, Michael, you’re a professional ball player, and…”

Of course I couldn’t take it anymore so I had to leave. I’ve seen this so much this season. Kenny has to explain something to Michael, Coney does some explaining… and then of course there’s Paul, who has less patience then me when it comes to Michael’s baseball acumen.

Which brings me to an idea – how about a little inflatable bat in the booth? Whenever Michael starts up the other guys (professionals hitters) can bop him (Coney can just hit him with a pitch or something).

Put him back on the radio. I’d like my TV Yankee games K-free.

Is anybody with me or am I alone in this?
