Yet another A-Rod believer
By Jon Lane
Line up the fearless forecasters. There’s Reggie Jackson, Joe Girardi and now Dennis Eckersley. Working as an analyst for TBS, Eckersley explains how Alex Rodriguez staying out of the spotlight helped him during the regular season. It’s similar to what I said before the season ended: The best thing to happen to A-Rod is that nobody is talking about him, especially remarkable considering he’s dating A-List actress Kate Hudson.
“The spotlight hasn’t really been on A-Rod,” Eckersley said. “When you think about what he went through at the start of the year with the steroid thing. He’s been laying in the weeds because there are so many stars in New York. He probably loves it. I think that will play into these playoffs. I think he is going to show up for these playoffs because I don’t think the pressure is what it was (before).”
A good friend of mine, who also happens to be a native Bostonian and Red Sox fan, offered this succinct analysis of A-Rod’s Game 1 performance: “That’s something new for Mr. April.” Yeah it’s one game, but it’s the time when reputations are made and stories are re-written. Rodriguez has to finish the job, but he won over some new believers Wednesday night.
lol Jon…Hi stay clear of my Bostonian friends especially this time of year you brave soul.
I think Arod’s past problems was he tried to keep himself on a pedestal and you know how others including Murphy and his laws always try to knock you down. This year Arod knew exactly where and who he was and it was far from pedestal worthy. Lo and behold that was the best thing to happen to him. Being on ground level makes you accessible to the masses and available to feel the love. Now people are in position to pull for you not against you. Heck some might even be Sox-ters albeit with veiled undercuts.
Go Arod n the Yanks!!!
Good article. I wish A-Rod the best of luck with the rest of the post-season. Go A-Rod!
Thanks for reading everyone.
Jon
This is killing me!! If A-Rod would have just been part of the team instead of thinking it is always all about him, there would be no pressure. The only pressure for A-Rod is that he is a legend in his own mind!! There is no i in team and the best way for him to thrive this postseason, is just be one of the 25!! Saying that, I pray to god this is his year. Go Yankees.

Are you seriously that stupid? AROD never thought he was above the team and it is all about him, not even once.
Everybody talks about how ARod’s return was so good for Teixeira. I think it’s really the other way around. Tex was due to heat up anyway (completely in line with his previous history of slow Aprils), and Tex’s emergence as the #1 offensive force in the lineup took the pressure off ARod.
I have liked Alex since he first came to New York. I believe his worst traits are that he puts too much pressure on himself and he sometimes tries to do too much. Except this year is different. Because of his limitations due to the hip surgery .. or at least his perceived limitations … the pressure is off. He truly seems relaxed and I hope he stays that way. Go Alex! Go Tex! Go CC and AJ and Andy too! Go Yankees!
