By the (ugly) numbers

By Jon Lane
The Yankees are 9-8. In five of those losses they’ve allowed at least 10 runs and have been outscored 73-27.

On Wednesday, the Yankees played baseball for four hours and 57 minutes covering 14 innings. Saturday, it took 4:21 to complete the sixth-longest nine-inning game in Major League history.

Think the bullpen is tattered and torn? Brian Bruney is on the disabled list and there are big problems with everyone not named Mariano Rivera. Jonathan Albaladejo,
Phil Coke, Damaso Marte, Edwar Ramirez and Jose Veras have a combined
ERA of 7.08. Marte has been a disaster and there’s no middle ground with Ramirez or Veras. Both are either real good or flat-out unwatchable. (No, Joba Chamberlain is not being moved to the bullpen.)

The past two losses have been galling. Rivera blew a two-run lead in the ninth on Friday and A.J. Burnett a 6-0 advantage yesterday, a game that required 385 pitches, 28 hits, two errors, 15 walks, a catcher’s interference and two hit batters in those four hours and 21 minutes.

What hasn’t changed is the Yankees’ biggest problem offensively last season, delivering with runners on base. Saturday they slugged 15 hits but left 12 men on base and are a combined 7-for-36 with runners in scoring position in the series.

The Rays are 7-11. The Angels, 6-11. The Indians, 6-12. The Mets, 8-9. The Cubs, 8-8. Moral of the story: seasons do not end in April and none of those teams’ managers are on the hot seat. The Red Sox have won nine in a row, yet are one game behind first-place Toronto with the Yankees three behind the pace.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Yankee fans aren’t gonna want to hear this, but we need to put Joba in the pen and give Hughes and kennedy another chance. joba looks lost as a starter. he throws WAY too many pitches and can’t finish off anyone. He nit picks too much. Put him back in the role where he can throw 100 mph because thats what hes good at.

He’s looked dominant as a starter too, and vs. those same BoSox. Give him time to fix himself up a little.

THE BEST WAY TO FIX THE YANKEES AND GRAB A PENNANT.

PUT JOBA IN BULLPEN ( 8TH INNING)
IAN KENNEDY AS A LONG RELIEVER
    PHIL HUGHES IN STARTING ROTATION.

    AUSTIN JACKSON IN CENTERFIELD..(HE’S READY)

    LINE-UP\
    JETER
    DAMON
    CANO
    TEXEIRA
    SWISHER
    MATSUI
    POSADA
    JACKSON
    BERROARA

    MELKY AND GARDINER ON BENCH…
    SIMPLE AND A GREAT LINE-UP
WHEN RODRIGUEZ GETS BACK SWITCH WITH SWISHER
AND PUT SWISHER 8TH OR 9TH
TRADE VERAS, TRY TO TRADE MARTE
JULY 31, GO AFTER hOLLIDAY IF HE’S AVAILABLE FOR LEFT FIELD. TRADE MELKY OR GARDINER OR BOTH.

IF THEY WAIT TO LONG TO BRING IN JACKSON AND HUGHES AND KENNEDY IT’S GOING TO BE TOO LATE..

ONE MORE THING, TAKE THE ROSEY GLASSES AWAY FROM GIRARDI AND WAKE HIM THE HELL UP!!!!

Instead of adding importance to your post it makes us avert our eyes and not take anything you write seriously.

I think it’s too early to panic and change the rotation right now. Joba’s struggling but so is Wang and Sabathia. I say leave Joba in the rotation, he’ll figure it out. The big worry is the bullpen. If they don’t start getting hitters out consistently then the Yanks may have no choice and move Joba.

We aren’t going to win a pennant with Posada behind the plate. I have said this for years!!!!!! He stinks !!! Passed balls, horrible pitch selection, liability on the bases (if he ever gets on), can’t frame a pitch, stand up before the umpire gets a chance to make the call, and has no idea where to stand on a play at the plate. Did you see the steal of home…wtf. He reached out like he was kissing his sister. What a wimp. I hope he gets hurt!!!!!

I am and have been a Loyal Yankee fan since 1951. I have never been so embarrassed.(I was busy starting my career in the late 60’s/early 70’s) for the Yankees. Their Aura is gone; they get very little respect from their opponents. The RED SOX are acting like they are playing the “Bad News Bears”. I know its early, we don’t have AROD or a centerfielder yet(Is Bernie available??), but the Team, is not a TEAM, just a conglomeration of individuals: I don’t have a lot of confidence in Giarardi. If we don’t start playing .600 to .625 over the month of May/June. We need to win three oou of every 4 series, and not have any more 0fers(like Boston). We need JOBA back in the BullPEN, and may need a new Manager by June 1. I vote for Jim Kaat to finish out this season, with Paul O’Neill as his Bench Coach, with the idea of being the 2010 Manager.

YOU ppl r stupid. make ian kennedy long relief wtf???. and joba back to pen??? look one inning isnt going to make a difference when the redsoxs beat us up from the 4th inning on or any team for that matter. btw joba isnt the same anymore since he’s returned. and steven jackson is not going to be great if he was then he wouldnt be as old as he is and still in the minors LOL. so stop with this crap. its gotta be starting pitching and so far ours have been crap. btw we havent won a championship since we’ve gotten a overpriced player, that never hit with risp, check the last couple of ws winning teams no one rediculously overpriced like our teams players. remember money never wins heart does and for the past 6 Years redsoxs have a lot of that.

Did anyone see how Posada ran out that 9th inning ground ball? It looked like he took his time to make sure he got doubled up. WTF. He is sulking because Molina got the start? I hate this guy
